RIBS TPTD: “Send Me An Angel”…

Whew!
Man, oh man… what a wacky couple of weeks it has been. I mean, I’ve been around long enough to understand that the world is crazy place, no surprise there. But the past couple weeks it seems like the crazy has been on overdrive. We’ve lost so many good people and in such rapid succession, it’s like nothing I’ve can ever remember experiencing before in my lifetime.
Recently we lost:
Koko Taylor (blues singer)
David Carradine (actor [Kung Fu, Kill Bill])
Ed McMahon (TV show host [Star Search] and announcer [The Tonight Show])
Farrah Fawcett (actress [Charlie’s Angels]))
Michael Jackson (singer [Jackson 5/The Jacksons/solo])
Fayette Pinkney (singer [The Three Degrees])
Billy Mays (TV pitchman)
Karl Malden (actor [The Streets of San Francisco])
and on Saturday July 4, 2009 while enjoying the holiday weekend word came down that Steve McNair former NFL quarterback with the Tennessee Titans was found shot to death in an apparent murder/suicide (at least that’s the early word being released at the time of writing this early in the morning on Sunday July 5th)
My prayers go out to the friends, fans and family of all of the above.
{sigh} So… at this time I figured we all could use a break. I figured we all could use some help to try and get us through these difficult days. Sometimes you just can’t (or shouldn’t) handle things all by yourself. It’s at times like this that maybe, just maybe we should turn our thoughts to the sky and ask the Almighty to please…

RIBS TPTD: More Ballads, More Jazz…

Good morning, or afternoon, or evening, awww forget about it… how the hell are ya?! *smile*
Whew! We had another great Cupid’s Hunt Podcast Event this past weekend! Like to send out a big “THANK YOU!” to all of the podcasters that participated and to all of the readers/listeners who stopped by some or all of the sites to check out the music. As for today, well I’m still in a jazzy/ballads state of mind myself. The Jazz ballads mix, “Have A Jazzy Valentine” I posted for Cupid’s Hunt was very well received and a lot of fun to research and make so I thought that I would continue in that vein this week. On our buffet table you will find tasty morsels from the likes of Kirk Whalum, Grover Washington, Jr., Jack McDuff, Cal Tjader, Noel Pointer and George Howard to name a few.
A little more on the mid-to-uptempo side (mostly) than “Jazzy Valentine”, this mix is still a very smooth listen and a perfect complement to almost activity you care to undertake. So let’s kick back, relax and stay in a “jazzy” frame of mind as we present to you this week:

RIBS TPTD: When Love Calls - The ‘Heavenly’ Mix…

Hey, welcome back to the RIBS kitchen! I hope you’re hungry… *smile*
Here’s an idea that popped into my head a few weeks ago, just about out of nowhere it seemed. Today’s buffet is a heavenly mix of songs… literally. I got to thinking about songs with the word “heaven” in them and, even though initially I didn’t think there would be that many, it turns out that I was able to find more than just a handful. This mix actually turned out much, much better than I thought it would. It’s a nice collection of sounds from a diverse group of artists including: Coke Escovedo, Luther Vandross, Seal, The Spinners, Gerald Levert, Teddy Pendergrass, The Dramatics and Roberta Flack just to name a few.
