Cupid’s Hunt 2011: The Look of Love – A Baker’s Dozen

A second entree from the RIBS kitchen for the Cupid’s Hunt event. This time we’re gonna do something a little different and give the “Baker’s Dozen” treatment to one of favorite ballads/love songs: The Look Of Love.

Originally composed by Burt Bacharach and Hal David performed by Dusty Springfield, this song first appeared in the 1967 spoof James Bond film Casino Royale.

Since then the song has been covered many times by a variety of artists. As a matter of fact I do remember seeing somewhere that “The Look Of Love” is number 10 on the list of the top ten most covered songs of all time. Quite a lot of versions! But for our purposes just 13 cover versions will do (12 actually since we start off the mix with the original sung by Ms. Springfield).

So, let’s get to it and take a look… at The Look Of Love. RIBS style. A Baker’s Dozen style.

      Valentine’s Day! Love is in the air! And you know what THAT means… it’s time for the annual CUPD’S HUNT PODCAST COLLABORATION event! Whoo-Hoo!

      For the 4th consecutive year DJs/Podcasters from all across the USA and other parts of the globe are teaming up to give you the best variety of soundtracks for your Valentine’s Day enjoyment. Personally, this has been a wonderful experience for me and I have made many, many new friends (not to mention the enjoyment of listening to all the great music) due to this event. The time and effort the guys and gals put into this is truly appreciated!

      Cupid’s Hunt 2011: Lionel-LOVE!

      Hey everybody. Well, it’s that time of year again, Valentine’s Day! And over here in the RIBS Kitchen you know what THAT means… it’s time for the Cupid’s Hunt Podcast Collaboration event where DJs and Podcasters from all across the country and many different parts of the world unite to release love music mixes to make your V-Day celebration extra special. Of course, I’ll have a lot more to say about what we like to refer to around here as the BIG Event in my annual “Let The Hunt Begin” post which I’ll post late Thursday or early Friday. Right now I want to let you get into this first RIBS Cupid’s Hunt mix without much further delay.

      This year I’m turning the RIBS CH spotlight on Lionel Richie. Now if you’re a soul music lover he needs very little to no introduction… one of the great artists to come out of the Motown Records label, one of the driving forces behind the super group The Commodores who later went on to have a sterling solo career, and one of the preeminent singer/songwriters of this generation. His ballads made famous with The Commodores are legendary: “Easy”, “Three Times A Lady”, “Still”, “Zoom”, songs we are all very familiar with. However, for this look at Lionel I took most of the selections for the mix from his career as a solo artist to shine the light on some of his later work that maybe you have not heard before (or at least as much as some of his earlier work. Of course, there are a couple of my favorites from his Commodores days, but for the most part sit back, relax and let Lionel, the solo artist, get you in the mood for love!

      RIBS TPTD: We Remember Teena Marie, R.I.P.

      “Casper”. “Shorty”. “Lil’ Bit”. “Vanilla Child”. “Lady T”. To say that the news of the passing of Teena Marie came as a totally unexpected shock would be perhaps the understatement of the year.

      Another one of the beautiful voices of the soundtrack of my life has been stilled. Now that the initial shock and sadness is starting to go away, we turn the page and remember the joy and happiness that she shared with us all over the past 30 years. To that effect, EJ (“The PodFather”) Flavors and your friendly, neighborhood Chief Chef here in the RIBS kitchen have teamed up and put together (what we hope you’ll consider) a worthy tribute to her.

      Cupid’s Hunt 2010: Wonder-LOVE!

      It’s taken a while to get this offering posted up here for you (originally planned to have this up on Thursday). I’ve been super busy (a good problem in this case) coordinating different things with the Cupid’s Hunt Podcast event, and I am now happy to be able to add my own contribution to the party.

      For this first CH mix (I actually had plans to share 5 mixes with you this Valentine’s Day weekend, we will see…) from the RIBS Kitchen I wanted to focus exclusively on Stevie Wonder. I’ve been meaning to do an all “Stevie” mix for quite some time now, and this seemed like a perfect chance to make it happen.
