Ahhhhh… sunshine, cool breezes, warm temperatures, Summer is here at last!
Sorry, to have been so quiet around here the past few months, but sometimes that’s how life goes. I’m sure you all know what I mean. However, no matter how long the sabbatical, it’s always nice to find my way back here again and share the joy of music with you.
Not gonna chat long, cause I want you to get right to the music, BUT I did want to give a shout –out to one of my brothers in podcasting, DarrenKeith, of the great My Love For Music blog and podcasts. Just listen to the intro and that will explain why… {smile}

Now, part 3 is for when you want to just enjoy the beauty of the sunset, the warm, gentle breezes and just chill out with an appropriate beverage or two. RIBS TPTD: Summer Heat – Too Hot, parts 1 & 2

Winter. Cold. Snow. AAARRRGGGHHH!
There is snow and cold EVERYWHERE it seems. I didn’t think anything could be worse than the winter of 2010 but obviously I was wrong. There’s snow in Dallas and Houston, Texas (it don’t even look right writing THAT!) Snow in Atlanta, GA. Hell, even the Chicago public school system had it’s first snow day cancellation in 12 YEARS!
{sigh} I want to see the street curbs in my neighborhood again. I want some sunshine. I WANT SOME HEAT!
Well, since I can’t control the weather (but, boy, if I could…) I’ve done IMHO the next best thing, I’ve put together a mix of “summer” songs that will hopefully make us forget about all of this winter mess (at least for awhile) and transport us to those beautiful, warm summer days/nights that we so desperately long for.
OK, let’s all do like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz… close our eyes, click our heels together 3 times and say, “There’s no place like summer, there’s no place like summer, there’s no place like summer…”

RIBS TPTD: We Remember Teena Marie, R.I.P.

“Casper”. “Shorty”. “Lil’ Bit”. “Vanilla Child”. “Lady T”. To say that the news of the passing of Teena Marie came as a totally unexpected shock would be perhaps the understatement of the year.
Another one of the beautiful voices of the soundtrack of my life has been stilled. Now that the initial shock and sadness is starting to go away, we turn the page and remember the joy and happiness that she shared with us all over the past 30 years. To that effect, EJ (“The PodFather”) Flavors and your friendly, neighborhood Chief Chef here in the RIBS kitchen have teamed up and put together (what we hope you’ll consider) a worthy tribute to her.
All in all we have 5 mixes of music from Teena’s career for you today. The first three can be found over on EJ’s site here. He’s put together extensive playlists of her hits and your favorites from the requests ya’ll sent in. Over here on RIBS I’ve concentrated on many of the duets and collaborations that she’s done over the years, some of which you may not have heard before, and mixed in a few of my own personal favorites from her catalog of music.

RIBS TPTD: “Sometimes He Cries, part 1”

Hey Kiddies, I’M BACK!
(finally. It’s only been 7 months, 14 days and God knows how many hours. But who’s counting, right? {smile} )
Like the song says, “It’s been a long time coming, but I know… a change is gonna come.”
It’s certainly been a “long, strange trip” around here lately, but, just in time for Thanksgiving, the kitchen is back in operation and we’re serving up some RIBS! I do hope you’re hungry {smile}.
Today’s mix is the genesis of an idea that came to me shortly after I first heard Eric Benet’s new song “Sometimes I Cry” over the summer. There are a lot of love songs out there (hell, most songs in one way or another are about love when it comes right down to it): good love, bad love, gotta-have-it-love, you-hurt-me-so-bad-I wanna-cry love. But most of these, especially that last type, are usually from a woman’s point of view. After doing some research I’ve found that only a small percentage of “crying” songs are from a man’s point of view. And we know why that is, right?
Because. Men. Don’t. Cry.
Well, the fact of the matter is… that’s not anywhere near the truth. Men do have feelings. And we do cry. And this mix will let you know just that.

Cupid’s Hunt 2010: Wonder-LOVE!

It’s taken a while to get this offering posted up here for you (originally planned to have this up on Thursday). I’ve been super busy (a good problem in this case) coordinating different things with the Cupid’s Hunt Podcast event, and I am now happy to be able to add my own contribution to the party.
For this first CH mix (I actually had plans to share 5 mixes with you this Valentine’s Day weekend, we will see…) from the RIBS Kitchen I wanted to focus exclusively on Stevie Wonder. I’ve been meaning to do an all “Stevie” mix for quite some time now, and this seemed like a perfect chance to make it happen.

RIBS TPTD: Disco Party-Donna, Double Exposure, The Trammps…

I need something uptempo this week! Get ready for a disco-fied edition of RIBS…
Not going to get too chatty here with the post notes this week (really, I promise {smile}). Wanted to give you something fast and uptempo this week as a change of pace from a lot of the mellow stuff we’ve had lately. That and the fact that next week we have a veritable tidal wave of beautiful, classic love ballads we’re cookin’ up for the Cupid’s Hunt Podcast Collaboration event.
