Cupid’s Hunt 2010: “Let The Hunt Begin!”

OK! I must admit ever since the New Year’s Eve/Day celebration wound down I have been anxiously waiting for this day to arrive. The Cupid’s Hunt Podcast event is finally here! Whoo-hoo!!! This post is where I’ll be blogging all of the goings on about this wonderful event.

Update#1 Saturday @4pm…
Alright. Let me take a deep breath *inhale*, hold it, *exhale*, whew! I can’t tell how many times I’ve gone to start this update and just stared at the screen/keyboard. There has been so much activity swirling around this collaboration event that I have literally been at a loss as to where to begin. However, when doing something like this, I think that is definitely a good problem to have. {smile}

Hmmmm, ok, let start off like this… some of you reading this may be discovering Cupid’s Hunt for the first time and not exactly sure what to make of it. Well, the CliffsNotes version is that it is an annual collaboration event by DJs/Podcasters from across the  country, actually around the world I can say this year, where we all make  music and/or audio podcasts with a “love” theme and release them on or just before Valentine’s Day. The Cupid’s Hunt Podcast Collaboration is HUGE this year. What started out as a handful of podcasters back in 2008 has blossomed into something bigger and more enjoyable than I ever dreamed possible. This year we have 28 confirmed DJs/Podcasters that will be participating and, by early estimates over 30 hours of music for you to enjoy. One of the most heartwarming things that has happened is that we have so many first-time podcasters that have joined the event this year. By my estimate over half a dozen (maybe more) Cupid’s Hunt “newbies” are posting mixes this time around.

This post here on RIBS will serve as your guide to all of the action. I will be updating this regularly over the course of the next 24 hours or so, adding in links to the various sites and mixes that will be available for you listen to and/or download. Now Let’s get started…

1. Jolene, The Night Nurse DJ
This lady is a dear friend of mine from BITD and one of our first-timers joining us this year. AAMOF, she tells me her website, The Night Shift, was specifically created so that she could participate in Cupid’s Hunt. Now that’s what I call commitment! And even though she’s a “rookie” podcaster, she is a veteran when it comes to her love for and knowledge of classic Soul/R&B music. She graces us with not one but two mixes for CH 2010:

2. Bryn Griffiths
Here we have another Cupid’s Hunt “rookie”, but from checking out his site, Trust in Dust, and his CH contribution, Bryn is someone who sure knows his way around a tune or two. He drops a two hour batch of CH goodness that he calls:

3. Vivrant Thang
Ha! This lady had me worried there for a minute. First of all she is an avid music lover and fan, with a great knowledge of and enthusiasm for music. But I had to practically beg her to produce a mix for us this year. Finally I had to resort to threatening to confiscate her “soul card” and prohibit her from attended live music concerts for three months (anyone who knows her will realize what a death sentence THAT would be!). And then once she had agreed, some technical glitches with the mix almost derailed everything. {sigh} Well, to make a long story short, everything worked out for the best in the end and she has delivered BIG TIME!

4. DJ Young Venom
Another newcomer this year. But when you get recommended by someone who knows her way around music like Nikki (a.k.a. Soulrific), do I really need to see your resume? {smile} While we have only communicated via email and IM, sometimes you can tell a person’s enthusiasm for what they do regardless. Young Venom’s shines right on through! Check him out…

5. Liz Burr (Calinative)
Liz checks in on the Hunt with a beautiful selection of her favorite Michael Jackson songs. Gone too soon with out a doubt. Yes, Liz, we all miss him very deeply too.

6. Panama Jackson
Another CH “newbie” Panama is one of the fine folks that run Very Smart Brothas. He comes highly recommended by Liz, and that’s enough for me!

7. DarrenKeith

One of the “ol’ seasoned veterans” that was there way back in the beginning. When I look back on it  that very first Cupid’s Hunt was probably DarrenKeith’s coming out party so to speak as he was very new to podcasting at that time. Now, he and the smooth, jazzy sound that he calls My Love For Music can always be counted on for moments when your soul needs to relax and unwind. This year he graces us with…

8. Trelly (soulmusiqluva)
This is my girl! The original Co-Chef! I had the pleasure of working on this RIBS Duos & Duets mix with her late last summer. Now technically she’s a “newbie” to Cupid’s Hunt, but anybody who knows her and her organization, One Nation Under The Soul Shack (ONUTSS) knows that there is nothing “rookie” about her when it comes to music. Well, it’s been one hell of a day, no make that one hell of a weekend! The 3rd annual Cupid’s Hunt Podcast event was a huge success. All of the DJs and Podcasters, both old and new, seemed to enjoy the experience (first priority, very important) and so far the early feedback from the listening public has been overwhelmingly positive. BUT… there will be plenty of time for analysis in the days/weeks to come. For right now, IT AIN’T OVER {smile}, as we have a few late entries that were added this afternoon while Cupid was trying to recharge his batteries…

Hmmmm, I wonder if a situation like this is where that saying, “And the hits just keep on coming!” came from! {smile} Just so you can understand exactly how CH has exploded this year, this post contains 38 unique podcasts compiled by 32 different DJs/Podcasters! And to think at the start of all this I was thinking that if we could get 20 podcasters this year I would have considered it a success. Wow!

OK. I’m done. I think, as Soulrific so aptly put it earlier today, “We showed up and we showed out!”

Update#5 Monday @4:30pm
Hey, it’s me again! It seems like the “love” will never stop around here. I’ve been looking all weekend for this lady’s contribution and for a minute there thought that she might not be able to join in on the fun. Well, she came through and I am so very happy about that! This is Naomi, although most of you know her as “DigitalFanGirl”. She has another excellent blog called “Unwritten Rules of Relationships” where she talks about, well, the title *is* pretty self explanatory, isn’t it? For Cupid’s Hunt she graces us with this beautiful but by Corinne Bailey Rae, “Closer”.

Well, I know we all thought Cupid’s Hunt was over last week but… I had to sneak these two in here. I ran out of time during the event itself and didn’t get them posted. However, love is celebrated every hour of every day all year long so they really aren’t out of place when you think of it that way! {smile}
