Just a quick message to any and all who happen to by here…

Today is Thanksgiving Day here in the U.S. Basically it is a harvest festival, a time to give thanks for the harvest and express gratitude in general.

With that in mind I just want to express MY thanks and gratitude for YOU the readers and listeners of Rhythms In Black Satin.com. I really appreciate you popping in here from time to time to check out this little music thing I do each week. Looking forward to entertaining you all with even more musical madness in the coming new year.

Have a safe, happy and healthy Holiday!

RIBS TPTD: Smack Down! Old School Ballads and Jazz…

Update #3: 11/24/08 @4:40pm. Added mixes #2 and #3…
Update #2: 11/24/08 @5:00am. Formatted and edited playlist…
Update #1: 11/23/08 @8:30am. Added mix/podcast links and playlist…

Hey Kiddies!

Sorry the schedule for posting the RIBS TPTD mix has been so erratic over past last month. Life has taken one of those extremely busy, stressful, there’s-not-enough-time-in-the-day kind of turns that we all have to work through from time to time. {sigh}

Anyway, just a quick note to let you know that there WILL be a new RIBS mix this week (actually 3, I’ll get to that in a bit), but it won’t be posted until later this evening or tomorrow. BUT… once it is ready I think, no I KNOW, you will enjoy it!

Here’s the setup…

My good friends, Soulbrotha and Vincent the Soul Chef (of the Four Brothers Beats and Fufu Stew blogs respectively) and I decided to do a collaboration on an Old School Ballads and Jazz mix. Well, the “collaboration” quickly evolved into a “can you top this” smack down, no holds barred competition. On top of that, since neither one of them nor I wanted to concede any ground as to who was the better “music master” it turned out that the single collaboration mix mushroomed into three mixes of some of the best slow jams that you can imagine. Whoo-Hoo, what a lot of fun! Now, while I keep telling them that I got the best of them, YOU are the ones who will eventually be the judges and vote on who is actually the “best of the best”.

So, there it is. Be sure to check back later this evening or tomorrow and throughout the weekend to for what I am calling:

Smack Down! Old School Ballads and Jazz - TGrundy vs. Soulbrotha vs. The Soul Chef

RIBS TPTD: Barack Obama, President-elect - The “Happy” Mix…

November 7, 2008 by tgrundy · 1 Comment
Filed under: Gospel, RIBS, Triple Play Thurs-Day, jazz, music, podcasts/mixes, soul

Man, oh man, what an historic and exhilarating week it has been with the election of Barack Obama as the first person of African-American descent to be President of the United States of America.

Wow!

The flood of feelings and emotions that have been washing over me is way, way too immense to even try and verbalize them. And anyway, I express myself so much better and more eloquently with my music as opposed to my words and/or writing.

This week’s RIBS TPTD mix is dedicated with great pride to President-elect Barack Obama (man it feels good to write THOSE words, President-elect Barack Obama, Whoo!) and to the beautiful new First Family that will soon take up residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. I many ways I would like you to think of this mix as part 2 of the fantastic OSW mix that the “PodFather”, EJ Flavors, posted on Wednesday. I had the pleasure and honor of suggesting a few songs for that one but kept enough to myself so I could continue the great vibe over here on RIBS.

I’m calling this one “The ‘Happy’ Mix” as the majority of the songs have the word happy somewhere in the title. The word happy and the word change are the two words that I keep coming back to as I think about the results of the election this past Tuesday night. Change, of course, is the wonderful message/theme of the Obama campaign that brings us all hope for a brighter future for this country after the darkness of the past eight years of the current administration. And Happy because, well, as a person of color in this world that is tired of divisiveness and who hopes that we all can just get along, if the election of Barack Obama doesn’t make you happy then I just don’t know what to say to ya! {smile}

Soooo, sit back, be HAPPY and… “Congratulations, President-elect Barack Obama!”

RIBS TPTD: GET OUT AND VOTE!

Whew, finally! (I apologize for not getting this out late Friday/early Saturday as I had planned. I’ve had an unusually busy last 24-36 hours.)

Here is our latest podcast collaboration effort that the “Super Friends of Podcasting” have put together for your enjoyment. This one is very important as it’s purpose is not only to entertain you musically but also to encourage you to:

Get up, Get Into It, Get Involved… GET OUT AND VOTE!

Now I could write many, many words about why it’s important and what’s at stake but, hopefully, you already are aware of these things. So… let’s get right to the messages and the music by some of your favorite podcasters and listen to what they have to say:
