RIBS TPTD: Jimmy McGriff - R.I.P.
As you can see from the title, we’re serving up some Jimmy McGriff today. Jimmy, one of the masters of the Hammond B-3 organ, passed away a little over a week ago (5/24/2008) but he did leave behind a rich legacy of music for us to always enjoy.
There’s quite a bit of information about the man that can be found online, I particularly like this biography over on Doug Payne’s “Sound Insights” website. It seems like many of the old masters are leaving us these days, for example Bo Diddley died earlier this week also (we’ll be doing something for him here soon also). Fortunately, as I stated before, at we still have the great music they left behind for us to enjoy and remember them by.
Rest in peace, Jimmy.
