RIBS TPTD: Al Wilson - R.I.P.

Aaannnndddd… We’re back!

Sorry for the lack of activity here (and on NetInfoWeb) lately. Had a rough patch of time there during the month of April. Anyway, I’ll go into some details of all of it at a later time. Right now, we’re back (to stay) so let’s get right into the music…

Do you remember Al Wilson? He had a monster soul hit in the early 70’s titled, “Show And Tell”. One of the classic soul songs of all time. Unfortunately, Al passed away last week (Monday, April 21, 2008) at the age of 68 from kidney failure. Unlike some of our other soul singers who had gained a larger measure of fame, Al’s passing went by almost unnoticed. I did see something on a couple of blogs (AAMOF that is how I found out about it this past Monday) and there were some reports in the news media when it happened, but for the most part… nothing.

Well, that’s not how we do thing around here. “Show And Tell” is of those “Soundtrack Of My Life” songs that always evokes found memories of my youth and the days when I first started to really get into Soul music and understand/experience it’s depth of beauty and passion. So today, here on Rhythms In Black Satin, we pause for a moment to honor the memory and legacy of one of Soul music’s outstanding voices as we present to you:

Sweet set. Al flew way too far under the radar.
As Snoop said one time…”too many of the wrong people getting paid.”
