RIBS TPTD: Songs For My Father - Ray, Sam and Lou…

They say, “Good things come to those who wait”. That’s how I’m hoping you’ll feel about today’s Triple Play Thurs-Day mix, since it’s so late getting posted to the site {smile}.

As I mentioned earlier, I’m going really old school this week with a series that I think I’ll run from time to time over the next several months. This one is called “Songs For My Father” (SFMF) and these are artists and/or songs that I grew up listening to when my dad would sit down long enough to play some records. Usually it was on a Sunday morning or early Sunday afternoon and when dad headed to the record player I just knew that one of our featured artists today would be the first thing he played, with the other two sure to follow.

Today you might call the cuts you’re about to hear “old school” or “classic soul” or “oldies”. Funny, but this stuff sounds just as fresh and new to me now as it did back then when I was watching daddy rifle through a few stacks of 45’s looking for his favorite songs.

Come with me please and take a journey back in time to some of the most pleasant and enjoyable memories of my childhood. Sit back, relax and enjoy Poppa Grundy’s three favorite artists as this week I present to you the first in the series I call “Songs For My Father”:

  1. Ray Charles
  2. Sam Cooke
  3. Lou Rawls
