Man, oh, man! This is gonna be a day to remember. Valentine’s Day 2008. The debut of what I hope will be an annual event online:

In our mind it’s not just Valentine’s “Day” but rather Valentine’s “Weekend”. And with that in mind we’re doing another one of our “mix marathons” all weekend long. Starting today all the way through Sunday we’ll be giving you…

Old School Slow Jams

…all total, almost five hours of some of my favorite slow jams from back-in-the-day when I was DJing and hanging out in college. Lots of stuff: some good love, some bad love, some rich love, some poor love, mostly from the early to mid-70s, with a little 60s and some early 80s thrown in to keep the vibe going.

One thing I do want to do before we get into the music is publicly thank my two best friends from college (I’ll call them by their nicknames from back then): “The Garrett Kid” and the “Mighty O”.

The song selections I’ll be sharing with you today and over the weekend were actually generated almost two summers ago back in June of 2006. I had recently reconnected with my two college friends after too many years apart and we decided to play a musical game of “can you top this”. The rules were that we would each take turns selecting 3 “slow jams” from our college days. The great thing about it was that the three of us were in different areas of the country and this game was played out via email! Well, the battle (and the trash talking!) went on for three days over one weekend from Friday noon till sometime late Monday morning. In the end we ended up with over 60 songs and one hell of a playlist.

Ever since then I’ve been looking for just the right opportunity to publish the results and now, with the Cupid’s Hunt Podcast Event, this is the perfect time!

So… a toast and a heartfelt “Thank you!” to my two best friends from college, The Garrett Kid and the Mighty O. This edition of RIBS could not have happened without you!
