This, as you can obviously tell, is a “rain” themed mix. Back over the Labor Day weekend when it was just pouring down rain on Saturday and looked like the weekend was going to be a total washout, I started wondering about all of the different songs that have “rain” in the title and/or were about rain or inclement weather. As it turns out there are a lot of them, quite a lot. One interesting fact I uncovered while researching songs for this mix is that “there are, in fact, according to The Muze (muze.com), over 5,000 albums containing at least one song with the word ‘rain’ in their title, just since 1960″.

While I didn’t uncover all of those 5,000 during my search, I did find almost a couple of hundred. Then, of course, came the arduous task of filtering through them all to find just the right combination for the playlist. I think that I’ve put together a nice group of songs that have a smooth flow. However, there are so many good rain songs that didn’t make the cut for this mix that I just have to make an “In The Rain 2″ at sometime in the near future.

OBTW… if you download the .MP3 file you just might be able to “hear” the rain and the thunder on some of the songs in the background!

Enjoy!

[...] The latest creation from the RIBS kitchen, “In The Rain”, has been posted over the Rhythms In Black Satin site. You can listen to the radio.blog playlist or, for a real treat, download the .MP3 file, sit back, close your eyes and I swear you’ll actually start to hear rain falling and thunder crashing around you while you drift along on the cloud of music. As I always like to say, “music never felt sooooooooooo good!” [...]

  2. How about a database that can automatically parse through these key words and come up with parameters that can filter the list down into CD-length ablums? Such as music only made from a couple of genre? Or made in a specific date range? Or specifying sad songs from begging songs from… Oh, you get the point!

  4. Every one can post up their own experiences with songs and fill in detailed data that’s pertinent to each song. That way you don’t have to do ALL the work!!!

  8. [...] RIBS has a nice collection of “Rain” songs featuring oldies like Tempatations to comtemporaries like Jamie Foxx. There is a review of the collection here. “Can You Stand The Rain” by New Edition and recently by Boyz II men, was a favourite of mine for sometime.
